What to avoid, and what the trials can tell us
A clean-looking page or a confident claim cannot fill the gaps in what is known. Here are the gaps and the claims worth slowing down for.
Facts checked September 28, 2026.
The combination often upset the stomach
CagriSema is a study combination containing semaglutide along with cagrilintide.
Semaglutide is a different medicine that copies a body message affecting hunger and blood sugar.
In REDEFINE 1, stomach or bowel problems were reported by 79.6% of people on CagriSema, versus 39.9% on a dummy shot.
The paper described most of these problems as brief and rated them mild or moderate, rather than severe.
In an earlier trial of cagrilintide alone, common problems included feeling sick, stools that were hard to pass, loose stools, and reactions at the spot where the shot entered.
The combination’s figures do not describe cagrilintide alone.
The official safety information is missing
A medicine’s label is its official information about uses and risks.
At the September 28, 2026 check, neither cagrilintide nor CagriSema had a label approved by the FDA, the US drug regulator.
That leaves no FDA-reviewed list for pregnancy, medicine combinations, or who cannot use it.
The FDA has not judged cagrilintide safe and effective for treating any condition.
Ask the doctor what remains unknown about harm to you, especially with your other medicines or health problems.
Do not borrow another drug’s label
Semaglutide (Wegovy) has its own label; the version checked September 26, 2026 carries the FDA’s strongest warning about tumours in certain thyroid cells.
In the neck sits a gland called the thyroid.
Those tumours were seen in rats and mice; whether the drug causes them in humans is unknown.
That label rules out Wegovy when you have had medullary thyroid cancer or when a family member has had it; this is a rare thyroid cancer.
Wegovy must not be used by people with MEN 2, a rare illness that parents can pass on to their children.
Ask: “Has anyone in my family been diagnosed with MEN 2?” If you do not know the illness names in your family, tell the doctor what you do know and ask for help checking.
Wegovy must also not be used after a serious allergy to semaglutide or any of its ingredients.
Ask the doctor to read the official information for the medicine they are offering you.
Clues that do not prove approval
The National Drug Code (NDC) is the number used to identify a medicine in a government directory.
A seller may point to that number, but it does not prove FDA approval, as checked September 26, 2026.
It is false to say that the FDA has approved a compounded drug.
In letters reviewed on September 28, 2026, the FDA challenged “research only” labels on cagrilintide products marketed for human use.
The letters say the FDA believes those sellers broke drug law; they are accusations from the FDA, not decisions by a court.
Ask: “Has the FDA approved this exact medicine?” A drug code or the words “research only” on a bottle cannot answer that question.
When a severe allergy needs urgent help
Sudden trouble with breathing or swallowing, or a tongue that swells, may signal a severe allergic reaction.
A severe allergic reaction is an emergency: get emergency help or go to the closest emergency department.
This is general urgent-help information, not a way to diagnose a reaction here.
